I love how I can't tell where the creative process begins with you. It's like you're bum-rushing the paper with every tool you've got at once and the end result is still something harmonious and beautiful. What are you using, pen and pastel? Oh, and your thumbnails remind me of brain image reconstructions and are about as incomprehensible. I like that.
I just used a mechanical pencil and smeared it all over cardstock. The cardstock is so smooth that it gives the appearance of pastels, and the charcoal look comes from the scan—instead of making the paper a pristine white I blow out the contrast, then digitally colour on top of it to try and finish the sketch without killing any of the energy.
